  1. CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE:

My research has contributed to knowledge by providing various means of improving teaching and learning Science in the classroom, especially Basic Science and Biology. One of the aspects in which my research is mostly significant is in the area of improving teaching and learning by inculcating various student-centred instructional strategies such as Mind-Mapping and Concept-Mapping. These were carried out with a focus to improving students’ academic achievement and creating a positive attitude towards the learning of Science. The information provided from that was highly significant as the strategies had a positive effect in improving teaching and learning. The information provided through the research identified Mind-Mapping as the better teaching strategy for Basic Science. Also, the outcome of the study showed that the use of Mind-Mapping and Concept-Mapping instructional strategies in the teaching and learning of Basic Science at the the grassroot could be a way out to improving the teaching and learning of Science in our senior secondary schools. Furthermore, the publication recommended that curriculum planners should include the student-centred instructional strategies in secondary schools Science subject schemes for teachers and learners.
