CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

My researches have contributed to knowledge by providing various means of improving teaching and learning, especially in Science. One of the aspects in which my research is mostly significant is in the area of curriculum, and it implementation which include the compliance level of schools with the minimum standard, the problems militating against curriculum implementation and so on.

My work on curriculum also sheds light on the time devoted towards Biology practical activities, availability and accessibility of laboratory equipment/apparatus, and so on. I have also worked on the Effects of English and Yoruba interpreted Biology picture label as an advanced organizer on students’ learning outcomes in senior secondary schools in Ife East local government area.

The information provided from that was highly significant as the strategy has a positive effect in improving teaching and learning. In addition, my work on teaching and learning include Peer Tutoring and Think-Pair-Share Strategies in improving senior secondary school students’ academic performance. The outcome of the research proved the strategies positive in improving teaching and learning.

The information provided through the research identified think-pair-share as the better teaching strategy. These were carried out with a focus to improving students’ academic achievement in science and also to improve the teaching and learning across all levels of education so that curriculum implementation can meet up with trends and global demands. Consequently, the publication was awarded and recommended to be in textbook, titled: New vision in science and technology.

Concomitantly, my research interest is in the area of testing the best instructional teaching strategies in science subject to meet up with challenges of 21st century. For example, my research on testing teaching strategies especially student-centered had covered “open and guided inquiry instructional strategies in improving academic performance, testing self-efficacy and accessing students’ science process skills among others”.

The implication is that, education is the major way any nation could be developed in a sustainable way. Once a nation such as Nigeria, become serious in utilising research findings, just as places like europe, education will no doubt solve majority of the problems combating the overall development that kept her in a low degree of advancement overtime. Thus, my research findings apart from being implemented in other nations, could then be used to bring the reality of what a sustainable system should be in Nigeria and other nations of the world.

Furthermore, my research area has been covering other fields such as social sciences, Biological and health sciences due to my background in biological sciences. My research interest is also focusing on using science education, especially Biology to solve health related issues all over, through the coherent implementation of science (e.g. Biology) curricula.

I have in collaboration worked on malaria parasites, cleft and palate lips, housing and slump development among others. This is because of the passion I have for research, which should not end up only in the classroom settings (formal education).
